Who We Are.

The Centre for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development (CPDG) is an independent non-profit organization headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, and working to promote peace, democratic governance and development in the East and Central Africa regions. The Organization was created in 2015 and is fully recognized and registered by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB).  Founded in 2015, it was granted the provisional certificate No 170/NGO/RGB/201 on 15th June 2015, and achieved the full legal personality on March 31st, 2017 when it received its definitive license No 103/RGB/NGO/2017.

Our Mission

The mission of Center for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development (CPDG) is to generate knowledge and enhance the capacity of citizens to influence public policy choices in order to consolidate peace, democracy and good governance in Central & East African Region and the rest of Africa in general and in Rwanda in particular. CPDG strives for excellence in the promotion of peace, credible elections, citizen participation and the strengthening of political institutions and civil society organizations for sustainable democracy.

The Center for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development is committed to realizing a regional bloc where democratic governance, human rights and citizen participation are upheld in a peaceful environment in Central and East African Region.

Our Objectives

The overall objective of the Center for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development is 'to design and implement the promotion of peace and democratic governance strategies in Rwanda and other countries of Central and Eastern African region, while constituting a Knowledge management Center practicing technical and intellectual leadership in the areas of peace, democracy, good governance and development'.

Its specific objectives are among others:

  • Develop and offer new tools for strengthening peace and democratic governance;

  • Strengthen the capacity of civil society, political organizations and elected officials, as agents of peace, democratic process, in particular, their capacity for analysis and evaluation of public policies, and strengthen opportunities for dialogue between them;

  • Promote citizen awareness, democratic culture and citizen participation, particularly of women and youth in governance process;

  • Promote transparency and accountability, professionalism and efficiency of the electoral process;

  • Promote innovations and experience sharing on peace, democracy, good governance and development at national, regional and international levels;

  • Create of knowledge through applied researches in the area of peace, democracy, good governance and development.

Strategies & Activities

Central strategies consist of strengthening global and local governance structures, political organizations, civil society, constitutionalism and the rule of law and electoral systems towards promoting the culture of democratic dialogue, and citizen engagement particularly focusing on women and youth.

The Center for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development formulates and implements specific programs and activities to ensure and achieve its objectives. These activities are:

  • The creation of knowledge through applied research using techniques and methods of social sciences in the area of its specific objectives;

  • Sharing publication and dissemination of the result of applied research, standards, rules and guidelines for democratic governance through information, communication, trainings and civic and voter education, counseling and advocacy and opinion polls;

  • The establishment of a network of national, regional and international expertise in peace, democratic governance and development.
