Historical Background

The Centre for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development is an independent and non- profit making Organization based in Rwanda, created in 2015, recognized and registered by Rwanda Governance Board under the provisional Certificate No 170/NGO/RGB/201 of 15th June 2015 and the definitive license no 103/RGB/NGO/2017 of 31st March 2017.

Africa is endowed with many natural resources, human and cultural riches which are significantly not contributing to the socio-economic growth unlike other continents. Decades of dictatorship in several African countries have established inequalities within populations, resulted in numerous conflicts and contributed to poor standards of governance and/or lack of a functional and appropriate democratic system.

Today, it is agreed that truly developmental states are democratic ones. This means that democratic governance is a key parameter to achieve peace and sustainable development of a country. The Establishment of the Centre for Peace, Democratic Governance and Development should be understood as another effort by concerned African Intellectuals to reflect on how peace, democracy and good governance can be promoted and consolidated for sustainable development on the Continent especially in Central and Eastern African Countries.
